Welcome Back to Dorm Room DIY!

This week I’m going to share with you a few hacks that I use to keep my room organized and my life a little easier. My first hack is a small extension to last weeks, magnetic makeup holder.

Mason Jars

In my last post, I showed you how to make a magnetic makeup holder. To complete my makeup wall, I also added mason jars to hold my Q-tips and cotton balls. This was super easy to do.

I used string, four tacks, 2 strips of paper, 2 command strip pairs and 2 mason jars to complete this. I first tied the string to the top of the mason jar and around a tack.

I secured this in the wall and added another tack for the mason jar to “sit on”.

For added protection, I also added the strip of paper. The strip of paper is taped onto the mason jars and then secured to the wall by command strips. I have had this setup since the beginning of the Fall 2016 semester and never once have they fell.

Tic-tac or Hand Sanitizer Bobby Pin Holder

Bobby Pins are one of those things that just get lost and we all know it’s going to happen. They are all over your room and most likely your bag too. There is a way to fix all this mess. Grab a tic tac box and put your bobby pins in there! It’s a fantastic way to keep them all together and makes for a very easy way to get them out. If you don’t have a tic tac box, another solution is to use an old hand sanitizer bottle.

It does take a little more time to get the bobby pins out, but in the end, I just use it for a little more organization. This is also a great hack for traveling.

Pick

This is just a simple tack in the wall to keep from losing your pick. For some reason, I always kept losing it before. I would set it down after using it and then it would get in the way so I’d move it and then It would be gone. It’s also a nice additive to last week’s post. Everything can be kept in one place and out of the way.

Curling Iron Hooks

Rather than keeping your curling irons, straighteners and blow dryers curled up in a mess, you can also hang them. Whether it’s on a wall or on the back of a door, command hooks are the answer. Command hooks can hold a lot of weight so you won’t have to worry about them falling.

Makeup Drawer Organizer

Organization can make a world of difference in getting ready for school, your job or anything else. Using a simple drawer organizer can help dramatically. I used one that I had in my desk drawer because I wasn’t using it at the time. But now, most of the things are organized. Doing this will also give you a chance to throw out any old makeup or any other products you don’t use anymore.
