Cristina’s ByteOfFashion: Septum Rings – Yes or No?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Getting my ears pierced was never a big deal for me because well, I got them pierced just days after I was born. But, whenever my parents saw kids at my age with a lip or nose piercing they would give me a glare that automatically meant I’d get disowned if I ever got came home with a piercing like that.

Back when I was in middle school, septum rings were known to be for skaters or goths. Today, they’re more feminine and delicate. Celebrities like Lady GaGa and Rihanna have helped set this new jewelry trend.

These septum rings may not be the kind that you’re used to seeing. Instead of boring black simple rings, they’re filled with complicated cuts, stones, gems and chains. They’ve become a statement piece instead of a basic jewelry item.

If you like this trend but you’re not ready for the commitment, don’t worry, Rihanna isn’t either! Her septum ring is fake and going fake is what most girls are choosing to do. It’s practically impossible to tell the difference from the real thing!

Etsy has a wide selection of fake and real septum rings and other stores like NastyGal and LaModa have added it to their stock.
