Campus Celebrity: Cristina Pappadake

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Cristina Pappadake has the gift of gab. And that is a good thing, seeing that is what she does on the Internet every week! The graduate journalism student, and this week’s Campus Celebrity, is the host of Girls Eye View, an online talk show that airs Thursday nights at 8 pm on the Zedalza Entertainment Network.

This girl’s view is something to be heard. Cri is sassy, candid and totally badass!

Tell me all about Girls Eye View?

Basically I pitched it as an idea when I noticed that the network really lacked many strong female shows. I am the first twenty-something female host on the network. I just wanted to have my voice and the voice of other twenty-somethings heard on a big platform and I think the Internet is as big as it can get, so here I am now! We are four months into the show and it’s going really, really well.

You pitched the idea for the show, but were you always going to be the host?

This has been my show entirely, my brainchild. I have a co-host that I brought on with me. Prior to getting the show, I had known the network owners from an article I wrote about budding journalists in the digital era. We really meshed well together during the interview and they knew my credentials. They knew I was in grad school for journalism and that I have previous broadcast experience, so they trusted me. I just had to come up with this really awesome format and show them a couple of test shows and go on air for a test run and I was in!

What kind of things do you talk about on the show?

We talk about everything that millennials talk about: dating, sex, relationships, taboos, society culture, pop culture… we really talk about anything. I like to bring contemporary news issues into the show but I also like to keep it a little bit Thought Catalog-esque in its real examination of things that our generation deals with, more so than any other generation’s ever had to deal with. It really varies.

You also do a lot of interviews on your show. What is coolest one you have done so far?

I recently did an interview with YouTube sensation Anthony Vincent, who did 20 Styles of Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse.” He sang the song in the styles of 20 other artists, from Tech N9ne to Type O Negative to Frank Sinatra. It really ran the gamut. That was really awesome. And I just interviewed Sausage from Ink Masters, which was really exciting.

Who is your dream guest?

I’m always trying to get people on. I’ve been in contact with Amy Poehler’s  group Smart Girls about coming on for an interview. I’m always looking for notable people to talk to, not even necessarily celebrities, but anyone who has a good story.

Do you have any industry role models?

Oh my gosh, absolutely! Howard Stern and Oprah! I always say I want to be a culmination of Howard Stern meets Oprah. I want to do inappropriate but I also want to do sentient because that’s basically me in a nutshell.

Like you said, you’re currently completing your grad degree. What do you hope to do when you graduate?

I honestly hope to be a talk show host. I know that you have to start at the bottom and work your way up, but I’m hoping that with the new medium, with the Internet, I can kind of find my niche and go from there. I would be the happiest person in the world if Girls Eye View blew up and made it. That would be the highest level of honor that I could ever receive. Honestly I just feel like everyone has a story to tell, including myself. I have a pretty awesome story so I really want that to be broadcasted. I want people to know that they’re not the only one feeling a certain way. That’s my life goal and my life goal is to be heard. I want to give other people a voice too.

So if all goes according to plan, I will have my own talk show, hopefully on HBO so I can still say curse words because I really enjoy getting my point across with ‘the f-word’ and I like the thought of not being regulated; that’s why I love the Internet. I hope to stay in a medium that’s very accepting of those words and that vernacular, rather than a CBS or an ABC. Although, I’m not turning my nose up to any of those. If they wanted me, I’d be happy to tone it down a bit, but I really like the freedom that I have on the Internet.

You’ve got big dreams, how can we support you and your show?

If you would be so kind, like us on Facebook! We are Girls Eye View. You can tune in live Thursdays at 8 pm on Zenlive.tv,  that’s the best way to check us out. You can always see our archived shows, they are on the website. And you can definitely buy a Girls Eye View t-shirt, we have a booster campaign going. The money will go to our broadcasting fees because unfortunately we’re not getting paid to be on air, we have to pay to be on air. That would be awesome, but really any kind of support would be great! Please, share our stuff!

Our show is fully interactive, we have a chat room live every time the show is on, so it’s really easy to interject and give your two cents. With the beauty of social media, we’re constantly connected and we always answer. We’re always looking for people to be involved or to interview.
