Beauty Blog: Makeup on A Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

One thing I never feel guilty blowing my money on is my makeup. I love my makeup. I love trying new products out and seeing the amazing result of a new product. Everything from foundations, to concealers, to eye shadows, lashes, and much more, I love it and have tried it all. I’ve used drugstore makeup, as well as high-end makeup, and out of all of it I have found some of my favorites. Lately I’ve become even more obsessed with it all, so I figured, why not put it into a blog.

So to introduce you to this beauty blog I’ll start with one of my favorite brands, e.l.f.

They’re makeup is insanely low priced (most things in the store are under like 6.00$. Whenever trying cheap makeup you want to be really conscious of the fact that it can contain things that are not so good for you. e.l.f. is a totally different story. This makeup line is sadly a little harder to find. Luckily theres a studio store right near me, but otherwise the line is really only found in Target or Urban Outfitters.

One of my staples in my makeup collection is the e.l.f studio matte lip color. I have them in literally every color and they’re awesome. They come in a thin stick form that makes it really easy to apply. The best part about these is they’re 3.00$ a piece. They have a great matte finish, which will last you a little while, but the thin container is easy to keep in your purse and throw on when you need a touch up. Plus when you run out its only another 3.00$ to get a new one, hence they’re guilt free. Favorite Shades: Natural, Tea Rose, Nearly Nude

Another e.l.f favorite is my e.l.f cream eyeliner. This is also another cheap 3.00$ purchase but its one of my favorites. I never use anything but black on my eyes but this is an easy cream eyeliner to apply if you’re just starting off using cream or gel liners. It comes in a little pot with a small brush (I prefer to use my own angled brush) and is super soft. The one negative to it is you may have to run over it with another layer just so it doesn’t look so streaky. One of the things I love this for is lining my false lashes with it after I apply them and the glue is dried, I like just going over the lash line with this cream liner to make sure there’s no visible glue spot.

For those of you with oily acne prone skin, something that gets great reviews of is their Acne Fighting Foundation. With things such as salicylic acid, witch hazel, tea tree oil, and aloe mixed into the foundation, it will fight breakout while wearing it. This foundation does run a little dark, but it is long lasting and goes on well! Definitely something to try if you’re looking to cover up a breakout and get rid of it at the same time.

Overall I’ve had a wonderful experience with this brand as a whole. There are a few products here and there I didn’t like but for the price you can’t go wrong. I highly suggest this brand if you’re looking for new makeup on a budget.
