1. Visit a Haunted House!
Looking to put a little fright in your fall? Visit a haunted house. Voted “Scariest Haunted House” on Long Island eight Years in a Row, the Bayville Scream Park has 5 terrifying attractions. In October the Bayville Adventure Park becomes the Bayville Scream Park! There are two “not-so-scary” haunted houses if you’re not into terror. The park is open weekdays and weekends in October. For more information visit www.bayvillescreampark.com.
Looking for something a little closer to Hofstra? I suggest NYZ Apocalypse in Deer Park. NYZ Apocalypse is an interactive zombie survival adventure. Team up with friends and battle hordes of the undead in this underground laser adventure. Rated five pumpkins on lihauntedhouses.com, this is an absolute must see event this season. 2. Pumpkins and stuff!
If you’re not into being terrified for fun, The Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns at Old Westbury Gardens is a non-terrifying Halloween extravaganza! More than 5,000 hand carved jack o’lanterns created by professional sculptors are arranged throughout a ¼ mile scenic trail. Visitors can see a recreation of the NYC skyline, a giant jack o’lantern graveyard, and famous athletes and TV stars – all made of pumpkins! For more information visit: therise.org.
Pumpkin patches and corn mazes are classics for a reason! They are fun and easy and make for an awesome weekend activity with friends. Buy a pumpkin and make your own jack o’lantern (see Pinterest for inspiration), race against your friends in a corn maze, or take a charming hayride through Long Island’s scenic farms. 3. Take a hike!
If you aren’t from the northeast this is a great time to take in the fall foliage! Long Island is home to a great amount of hiking trails and quiet beaches. A fall hike is a nice way to spend some time outside of classes and the library. It’ll be cold soon so you should get outside and take in the nature before the snow starts to fall.
