Style Tips for Your Valentine’s Day Date

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Harvard chapter.

It’s that time of year again! Valentine’s Day is almost here, and everyone is discussing their plans for this Friday. But less important than the plans themselves is what your style plans are for that night! Whether you’re excited to be spending it with a special someone, or you’re choosing to ignore the holiday, we’re here to help you to make sure you dress the part this Valentine’s Day.

Date Night:

Nothing says date night like that little black dress. Your most valuable piece of clothing, this dress is elegant, formfitting, and shows just enough leg. Paired with virtually any type of high heels, it’s the perfect outfit for a romantic dinner with your significant other…

Unless, of course, you live in New England. Let’s face it, that dress and your new stilettoes are practically a death sentence in the frozen tundra that is Harvard Square. But that doesn’t mean you have to give up your fashion. You can trade in that cocktail dress and heels for a sweater dress, some fun tights, and booties. Combine it with your favorite scarf and a wide belt for an outfit that is sophisticated, flirty, and, most importantly, warm.

Girls Night:

Valentine’s Day is ideal for spending time with your closest girl friends. On a night like this, you probably won’t want to stay in. Dark wash jeans and knee high boots are ideal for those dorm parties and final clubs. They’re stylish, comfortable, and you won’t be devastated when someone accidentally spills their drink all over them.

When it comes to tops, the sky’s the limit! You could make a statement with sequins, or look lovely in lace. And that crop top you discovered in the dark depths of Urban’s clearance basement? We all know that you’ve been dying to wear it, and this is the perfect night to do so! You really can’t go wrong with your style on a night like this; all that matters is that you’re surrounded by your closest friends.

Staying in:

What if you’re having a long-awaited reunion with your old friend, Netflix? If that’s the case, then disregard everything you’ve just read. On a night like this, make-up is forbidden, and pants are optional. You have the entire room to yourself, which means no one will be there to judge you when you have a dozen Insomnia cookies delivered to your door. So get your over-sized t-shirt, fuzzy slippers, and take over the common room. Staying in this Valentine’s Day is nothing to be ashamed of. You’ve worked hard this semester! You deserve a night to yourself.
