Harvard Students Protest Ferguson Non-Indictment

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Harvard chapter.

Harvard students and faculty gathered this morning to protest the non-indictment of a white police officer in the shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, earlier this year. Undeterred by the steady rain, protesters laid on the ground in front of University Hall for several minutes to represent the “unjust deaths of black people” in America. Protest participants commanded the attention of Harvard students, affiliates and visitors to the Yard with their powerfully-worded signs and X-marked backs.

The demonstration also included poetry recited by Tsega Tamene, speeches by Harvard professors and a performance by Kuumba. This was the second organized protest at Harvard against the non-indictment decision in the Michael Brown case this week, following the December 1 march and die-in on Massachusetts Avenue.
