BakeGreek: The Cutest Cookie Cutters You'll Ever See

Saturday, January 15, 2011

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I love baking and that I love my sorority (shoutout to Delta Gamma!), which is why I was immediately excited when I stumbled upon an ad for BakeGreek, a company that specializes in cookie cutters shaped like Greek alphabet letters. How cute is that?!

The company was started by several recent grads of USC and UCLA, who understood the need for a simple way to create amazing cookies with Greek spirit. Her Campus Harvard was so thrilled to recieve a delta and a gamma that we just had to try them out! The BakeGreek blogger, Kotomi, not only walks you step by step on how to make the dough and the icing in the BakeGreek Tutorial, but also demonstrates how to decorate them to look scrumptious and chic (my favorites are the zebra stripes!). But being terribly busy college students, we decided to cut a few corners, bought dough and put sprinkles on them....which resulted in cookies that lost the shape of the letters after we pulled them out of the oven. Lesson learned: make sure you use cold dough!

Completely undaunted by our first experience (it was, after all, our fault for using warm sugar cookie dough), we've decided to try again. My sisters have been begging to try the cookies (and to borrow my cookie cutters!), and so as soon as we get back to Cambridge we're having a cookie baking session! (Cookies + icing + sisters = so much fun!) The demmand I saw for these adorable cutters inspired me to create a list for some of the ways you could use them, because, after all, they're just so much fun!

1) Bake cookies for/with your sisters. Not only will you score points for being awesome, get voted Most Likely to be the Next Martha Stewart, and give yourself a reason for hitting the gym, you'll also get to spend time with some of the girls you love the most. Win-win.

2) Give the perfect Big-Little gift. Welcoming your Little to your chapter can be so much fun, especially since you get to shower her with presents! These cutters are reasonably priced -- only $4.99 each! -- and will be sure to make your new sister smile. With all the Greek letters, you could order your sorority's  name, chapter name, or their class name. So many possibilites! Plus, if you order 7 or more, you get free shipping -- yes please!

3) Give a fabulous housewarming gift. Everyone gives bowls and pots and pans. Why not give something more creative and fun? Know a girl moving into a new apartment? Did your sorority get a new space? These cutters make such cute presents, especially on a college budget!

4) Convince the cute frat guy to take you out. Hey, fraternities have letters too. Why not make him some cookies (as they say, a way to man's heart is through his stomach) in the shape of his frat's letters? Make them even more special by decorating them in his farternitie's colors. He'll definitely be impressed, although, knowing guys, it might take him a cookie or two before he realizes that they're more than normal cookies...

Check out the BakeGreek store, tutorials and tips from their blog at www.bakegreek.com, and stay tuned for pics from out next batch of BakeGreek cookies!
