Winter is quickly approaching ladies, which means cold weather and dry skin! Your skin shouldn’t have to suffer just because the seasons change. Follow these tips to keep your skin from looking like a scaly snake this winter!

Put the lotion down!

Yes, you read that correctly. Ditch the lotion this winter, and switch to shea butter, or any type of all natural oil. Shea butter and oil are all natural and soak into your skin to keep it moisturized for hours. If you just can’t stay away from your beloved Bath and Body Works lotions try mixing it in with the shea butter or oil. Apply moisturizer to your damp skin when you get out of the shower and you’ll have baby soft skin for the rest of the day!

Switch up your soap

Try changing the soap that you use this winter. A lot soaps have ingredients that will dry your skin out. Switch to a soap that has ingredients that you can actually pronounce. Shea Moisture soaps are great for the winter, they have oils and tea extracts in them that won’t dry out your skin this winter.

Ditch those dry feet

Just because you put the sandals away doesn’t mean that you should neglect your feet this winter. To keep your feet moisturized, use a light exfoliator in the shower, and then put shea butter on them. Make sure you really pay attention to those heels, and sleep with socks on. You’ll definitely notice a huge difference within a week.

Face Mask

Face masks will be your best friend during those cold months! Use a face mask at least once a week to keep your skin glowing and moisturized this winter. You can even try making your own face mask with ingredients that you probably have right in your kitchen, or you can sneak right out the cafeteria. Mix together plain yogurt, a banana, honey, and coconut oil for a mask that will make your skin happy.

Don’t forget those lips

Your lips are important! They are extremely sensitive and dry out very easily. No one wants to be walking around looking like Tyron Biggums this winter. Exfoliate your lips as needed and always make sure you have a moisturizing chapstick or lip balm with you. Lip glosses are great but they don’t really keep your lips hydrated. Before you go to sleep at night rub oil on your lips and when you wake up they’ll be silky smooth. Your lips will be nice and kissable, and your boo will thank you.

Follow all of these tips this winter and your skin will thank you. Just because is cold and dull outside doesn’t mean your skin has to look dusty too! Take care of your skin this winter so that you can shine like the melanin goddess that you are.
