Greek of the Week: Arianna Thomas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Her Campus had a chance to chat with this week’s ‘Greek of The Week’, Arianna Thomas. This Fredericksburg, Virginia native is also a Spring 2016 initiate of the Gamma Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is also a proud member of the NAACP.

HC: What’s the best part about being Greek?

AT: Being able to serve the community. At a young age I was always taught to give back to others, so it’s very rewarding when I’m able to do that.

HC: Is Greek life popular back home?

AT: Not at all. Where I grew up it wasn’t something that was common. I do have a long line of Greeks in my family, from AKAs to Ques.

HC: How has Greek Life influenced your dating life?

AT: I don’t think it’s really influenced my dating life at all.

HC: Do you feel like it’s difficult to date, now that you are Greek?

AT: Not really, I feel like I was the same person before I joined this organization. Being Greek shouldn’t change who you are as a person.

HC: What’s the best thing about having line sisters?

AT: I think it’s the fact that I have people that I can always lean on. I have younger and older sisters but I gained even more sisters.

HC: Who are you outside of being, Ariana the AKA?

AT: I’m just a very laid back person and I think that I’m pretty nice… I’m just myself (laughs).

HC: What would your advice be to other people who aspire to be like you?

AT: I would tell anyone to be themselves. Don’t lose yourself in trying to become someone you’re not.

HC: What’s the funniest memory you’ve had with your line sisters?

AT: I feel like all of our memories are funny to be completely honest. Just being able to spend quality time with them and getting to know them on a deeper level is the best.

HC: How authentic do you feel Greek Life is on Hampton’s campus?

AT: I mean it has its moments , but every campus is different when it comes to Greek Life.  I feel like we all have our differences but at the end of the day we can come together and be unified.
