Spring break has come and gone and now summer is amongst us! This means swimsuits, beaches and vacations. So if you’ve been slacking on getting that summer body intact, it’s not too late. Stay tuned for different ways to spice your exercise life up!

The Gym

When we hear the phrase “I’m going to workout,” we generally think of working out at the gym.  The gym is usually the go-to destination because it has exercise equipment for different purposes such as abs, cardio, legs and more. Working out at the gym can feel a little weird for beginners because they may not know exactly where to start with so many machines in front of them. However, the more you go you will develop a routine tailored for your body. Use the other people working out in the gym as your motivation.

Yoga

This is a very efficient way to exercise. Instead of exercising separate parts of your body at the gym you can engage your whole body all at once in yoga. You are strengthening all your muscles while doing yoga and every pose requires you to work your core. Imagine how tight your core would be after doing yoga consistently! Many people prefer yoga as their workout because it’s cheap and easy. You can do you yoga almost anywhere and equipment isn’t necessary. Yoga can not only give you a tight, toned body but it unites your body and mind through its incorporation of breathing and relaxation.

Dorm Workouts

We are in college so we may not always have time to make it to a gym or a yoga class but that’s not an excuse. You can always workout in your dorm room because you don’t need much space for a good workout. Incorporate convenient workouts such as forearm planks, air squats, leg lifts, high knees, crunches and etc. In addition to doing these exercises in your room, if your dorm has steps throw some headphones on and run them a few times a week.

Zumba and Mixxedfit

If you have super high energy and love to dance, then one of these classes are for you. Both Zumba and Mixxedfit are both dance fitness but they are slightly different. Zumba’s style is inspired by Latin American dance while Mixxedfit incorporates more explosive movements while dancing to some of our current favorite songs. Mixxedfit also uses boot camp inspired exercises that makes it a little more challenging. Both programs use easy, repetitive choreography so students can focus on working out and not learning the dance moves. These classes are tons of fun and easily make you forget that you’re working out. Hampton also offers a Mixxedfit class in the student center on Mondays and Tuesdays if you’d like to try it out.

Partner Workouts

Sometimes we avoid working out because we don’t want to do it by ourselves. If you don’t enjoy working out alone grab a partner! It can be a family member, a best friend or a boyfriend. Just make sure it’s someone you don’t mind getting a little sweaty with. You guys can go to the gym together or do partner exercises. Some popular ones are the reach and touch plank, the push up with squat and the sit up pass.

Exercise Applications

There are tons of apps that can guide you through your workouts. The Nike training has a variety of options for workouts. They have cardio, abs, legs and much more. You can also watch the trainers demonstrate the exercises on the app. Pinterest also has workout routines and exercise that you can refer to.

There you have it! Ladies there is no excuse for you to not be getting those bodies right and tight for the summer time. Exercising is great for the body but also gives you a chance to clear your mind. Happy exercising!
