This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Imagine a man who appreciates every curve, freckle, crooked tooth, coiled curl, and dimple. A man who is so in awe of your beauty from the time you wake up to the time your head hits your pillow. A man who is so in love with you he is practically your life support. No, I’m not talking about your dream “Hampton Man”, I’m talking about THE man. God.

Maybe you walk around campus wondering how a certain young woman looks so “skinny”, or how her hair is always perfect. How she always wears the latest trend. As young women, it is so easy to want to compare ourselves to our friends and other girls on campus. Behind the hair, makeup, nails, and fits, the truth is many girls are feeling the exact same way.

Why, as young women do we put so much value into what others think about our exterior? We constantly pick at what we don’t like about ourselves. “If I could just lose 20 lbs, I’d be perfect.”

But God says otherwise. In the first book of the Bible, He carefully designs the body of a woman out of man. He has made no mistakes. Remember you were made in the image of Christ. That alone is beautiful. Whether you are pear shaped, athletic, thin, flat-chested, top-heavy, etc. No, you may not look like the girl next to you, but you are unique. YOU are beautiful. How good does it feel to know, your body was created by the Creator Himself?

So when you look at yourself in the mirror be proud of who you are. You are the only you in this world. God crafted and sculpted you before your existence. That is all the reason to glorify Him. You are a unique product of His love. The Bible even gives us a picture of what a healthy body image looks like. Psalms 139: 13 – 14 says, “13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.”

The most beautiful thing about giving your life to Christ is that it is no longer just a body, it is a temple. A temple that houses Christ. When you know that your body belongs to God you will have enough confidence to fill an ocean. Knowing this is also just another way to keep your “temple” in a healthy condition. That doesn’t mean you need to be a size zero, and eat salads 24/7. It simply means to respect and love the skin you’re in.

1 Peter 1:18 -19 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

YOU are beautifully created.
