Benefits of Working During College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hamline chapter.

Working during college can be stressful, especially if you’re a full time student. However, there can be a lot of benefits to having a job during college. Being able to be independent with your own money is so much better than having to rely on money from your parents. Working in college will allow you to have a relatively consistent flow of cash.

Another benefit of working during college is better  money management skills. There can be a lot of tempting things to spend money on in college, like late night runs to Taco Bell, so you will be tested!

Depending on the job that you have, going to work can be a stress reliever. I work at a pet hotel, so my job is essentially playing with dogs for seven hours. This is a great way to reduce stress and get my mind off of school.

Another possible benefit of working during college is that you could be getting work experience for your future career. This is especially true if you have an internship. Learning the skills before you actually get into the workforce will be super helpful to you, and it will give you a leg up on your competition.

There are many benefits to working during college, and being able to be independent with your own money is so freeing. Just keep in mind that a good balance between work and school is the key!
