What To Do on the Hill in the Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hamilton chapter.

Welcome to back the arctic—oh wait—Hamilton! The weather outside is frightful and the non-functioning fireplaces are oh so delightful. Rather than receding to your dorm to wait for the spring thaw (mud season, baby!), why not embrace the beautiful scenery and chance to wear your fashionable Bean Boots, and go out and make the most of winter on the Hill!

1.     Go sledding.

Just go. I don’t care whether you use an actual sled, a tray from Commons or even a plastic bag…just do it! We refer to our school as the Hill for a reason, take advantage of it! It’s only going to be socially acceptable to go sledding for a few more years of your adult life, so embrace it while you can! (I do not condone sledding all the way down to Bundy, but if you make it down alive, props to you)

*Also, word on the street is that Student Assembly is buying sleds to be made available to the student body in Sadove. Stay tuned.

2.     Embrace the Glen.

We are so blessed to have this amazing space on our campus, don’t let the snow scare you away! Tie up those Bean Boots and venture out into the Glen to make a snow man, snow angels or just to blow up Instagram with your artsy winter pics.  #tundra

3.     Snuggle.

Yes, with a boy would be nice….but if you happen to find yourself without a male companion, no worries. Grab some hot cocoa from Commons or Opus, pull up a fireplace screensaver on the computer, gather around a few friends, and voila!

4.     Hamilton Outdoor Club awesomeness.

Take advantage of the free transportation provided by HOC for free ski trips to Toggenburg every Wednesday at 4pm. Bring your own skis or rent them there. Also look to the HOC for cross country skis, snow shoes and more!

5.     Need I say more?

Katherine is currently a sophomore at Hamilton College. She loves her school, penguins, dancing and is always down for a good adventure.
