Three Winter Must-Haves That Won’t Burn a Hole in Your Wallet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hamilton chapter.

Let’s be real: For the next four or five months (or whenever winter is over at Hamilton), we will be spending all of our money on Opus. With most of our cash going towards Chai lattes, Mango Brie Panini and Opus cookies, we need to figure out a way to reduce costs. For most people, the obvious solution would be to cut back on shopping. We’re all for making changes in our spending habits, but at the expense of our clothing? No way! Here are cheaper options to cut costs for three of the biggest winter fashions: Barbour jackets, Touch Screen gloves and Riding Boots.

As the days get chillier on the Hill, it’s definitely time to invest in a great winter coat. Although those Barbour jackets are really cute, they’re also $500. Not exactly budget friendly if you’re trying to reduce the amount you spend or if you just don’t want to pay that much for a coat. You can find similar coats at L.L. Bean and Penfield Walpole for more than half that price!

L.L. Bean Adirondack Barn Coat, $79

Stuck in the middle of campus and need to find out whether you’re meeting friends for dinner at Mcewen or Commons? No more biting off your glove and freezing your fingertips this winter. You can now answer calls and text without removing your gloves with touch screen gloves. No frostbite, no problem! J.Crew sells their gloves for $68 but you can get a less expensive pair at Urban Outfitters and Target!

Urban Outfitters, $14

Target, $8.49

My professor asked me what the new fascination was with buying boots that made everyone look like they just came from a stable. I replied, “It’s so no one can tell their socks don’t match.” Duh. Rather than spending $300 to $500 on Tory Burch or Frye, opt for boots from Steve Madden or Charlotte Russe.

Steve Madden, $169.95

Charlotte Russe, $40

They also come in tan and black!
