Meet Abby Counihan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hamilton chapter.

Meet Abby Counihan

Name: Abby Counihan

Class Year: 2018

Major: Biology

What are you involved with on campus?

I run Cross Country, am a member of Club Nordic Skiing and Club Water Polo, and am an Adirondack Adventure Orientation Leader. I also am a member of the Global Health Organization and am a SAVES Peer Advocate.

What is your favorite part of being an Orientation Leader?

My favorite part of being an orientation leader is watching the participants come out of their shells in such a short period of time. The first day on the football field, even the most outgoing kids are holding something back but by the second day in the woods after eating sweaty cheese and not showering, the participants are laughing with each other like old friends. You discover that the ones who barely said a word the day before actually have a secret talent for animal noise impressions, know all the words to every Kanye song that ever existed or have the craziest stories.

What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?

My advice to incoming freshman is to be your unique self. There are people on campus who share or appreciate even your weirdest, most embarrassing interests and talents but you won’t be able to find these people if you never admit them.

Where is your favorite spot on campus?

My favorite spot is the trails of the Glen.

What is your spirit animal?

My spirit animal is a Black Lab.
