Fresh Starts

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hamilton chapter.

I don’t know about you, but the warmer weather we’ve had recently has vastly improved my mood. I’m totally ready to leave the cold, dark winter behind and enjoy the springtime!

One great thing about spring is that it’s symbolically a time for fresh starts – so as the world around you becomes green again, why not refresh your own life as well?

Do Some Spring Cleaning

Get rid of clutter by throwing out or donating stuff you don’t need or want anymore. Go through your clothes, putting away anything you won’t wear again till next winter. Reorganize your closet, dresser, desk, etc. Cleaning up your dorm room and your bedroom at home will make you happier to spend time in both places.

Stop Paying Attention to Toxic People

We all have people in our lives at some time or another who we could honestly live without. Maybe they’re constantly manipulating or criticizing you, or maybe they’re just someone who always takes more than they give. Obviously, it might be totally impossible or just impractical to totally cut these people off, but there’s no harm in distancing yourself from them. Make it clear you’re not going to put up with a toxic relationship, and allow yourself to back off.

Form Better Habits

It’s halfway through the semester, and everyone seems to be getting weighed down by various responsibilities and commitments. It’s easy to let certain things slide when you’re under pressure, but it’s more important than ever to make sure you’re getting enough sleep, water, exercise, and nutrients. Prioritize your health, and face the rest of the school year with more energy and confidence.

Try Something New

Winter can make everything more mundane, so by now you’re probably ready for anything other than the same old thing. Make some time in your schedule to explore. It doesn’t have to be a big deal – read that book you’ve been eyeing on the shelf, or search out some new music from Spotify or your friend’s music library. Eat some food you’ve never had before, or treat yourself to a new piece of clothing perfect for the coming warm weather.

Be Confident

Easier said than done, I know. But if you’ve been holding yourself back from doing something you want to do, take that chance. Know that even if it doesn’t turn out the way you want to, you really don’t have anything to lose. And on the other hand, you might be thrilled you did!
