What are you involved with on campus?
I am Pre-med, on the backline for the Women’s Ruby Team, and an EMT.
What do EMT’s do on campus?
Hamilton’s EMTs are the first responders in emergency situations. Instead of calling 9-1-1, students may call the campus emergency number (315)-859-400 and the EMTs will be dispatched within 3 to 4 minutes. The EMT process makes the response time in emergency situations faster and more efficient. EMTs provide care and have a direct link to the transportation committee.
Why did you want to be an EMT?
I have always been interested in medicine and wanted to have first hand experience with helping out in emergency situations. I think this opportunity will be a great way to find out if pre-med is the right path for me and is a way to be more involved on campus.
What is the most valuable lesson you have learned as an EMT so far?
I have truly learned the importance of professionalism and confidentiality. Hamilton is a small campus and I take our confidentiality agreement very seriously. These values have translated into lessons for my personal life in terms of being a trustworthy listener for my friends.
