Tell me about your blog, Adventures of a Brunette. How did that get started?

How it got started is kind of funny. It used to be a lot more than just a fashion blog; it had, literally, my adventures. I love to travel, so I first started it when I got back from England and Scotland. I was like, “I’m going abroad. I love all these things: I want to write about them.”

I work at Kate Spade, and so I love fashion; this is my way of being in the fashion industry. So I thought, “I’m going to start a blog.” Mel Rose [a mutual friend] and I were taking [a journalism] class and I was like, “Hey, would you mind taking pictures of me for my blog?” So, that’s kind of how the fashion part started.

Adventures [of a Brunette] used to be all of my adventures: travel, fashion, kind of anything I was feeling, my favorite places in DC…I was doing a bunch of lifestyle things. But it kind of boiled down to the fact that I really just like fashion, and I really like that kind of adventure; it just evolved into really doing fashion and focusing on style.

Out of everywhere that you’ve traveled, where has been your favorite place?

Ooh, that’s really tough. So, I loved Italy. And I was only there for a few days, so I can’t really say all of Italy, but I loved Sorrento. I pretty much ate gelato for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I went on a Contiki, so I met a bunch of random people, but I think I loved it because the people that I went with, I still hang out with them. So I think the connections I have with being in Italy were awesome. But also Sydney, Australia, because I’m going to move there; I love Sydney, I love everything about Sydney.

Is fashion something that you want to pursue after college?

I don’t want to be a designer, but yes, I want to work in the fashion industry. So I’d love to do retail operations, or merchandising operations, things like that, for fashion houses.

Between work, school, and your sorority, life can get pretty busy. How do you manage and/or de-stress?

Managing-wise, if you look at my planner, work schedule is at the very top, there’s my class schedule, I have a little foldout where all of my assignments are and when they’re actually due. For de-stressing, I love running. It’s the time when I get 30 minutes to just run a couple of miles, it’s like, “this is just me, just chilling.” Also, another great de-stressor would definitely be a bubble bath followed by pizza and Netflix.

Do you have any advice for someone who wants to start a fashion blog?

If it’s something you love, do it; and that’s honestly about anything. Don’t feel embarrassed about it.

Also, if it’s a fashion blog, make it your style; don’t try to wear something that you don’t like to wear. Pretty much everything on my blog is my style, or something I wish I owned in my closet.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

If I’m not living abroad, I think I’ll probably be in New York, maybe still in DC, but most likely New York. I’ll be working in retail, or in business school. I’ll still be blogging though; follow all of my adventures on Facebook, Instagram, and on my blog!
