Being injury prone is a struggle within itself, but the consequences that come along with it are even worse. Here is a list of the top struggles of being injury prone.

1. The phrases you constantly hear…

“Girl, we’re gonna have to just wrap you up in bubble wrap!”

I have heard this phrase regularly throughout my life starting at the age of 4 when I broke my arm. Though it may be a good idea, it doesn’t make it any less annoying to hear over and over again. Also, I would just like to address the fact that I love popping bubble wrap, so it would probably be very costly to wrap me in it. I would just continuously pop it.

“Wow, how does one even manage to do that?!”

I have come to the conclusion that I have a knack for getting injured. People are always amazed not only the extent and number of injuries I have (at one time), but also by how they happened. I mean, when you think about it, dislocating your knee cap and breaking your elbow in the process is kind of impressive!

2. People get skeptical

After so many alleged injuries, people begin to wonder if you’re faking it (professors especially). I swear, I am just clumsy and have bad luck. It’s now at the point where I need a doctor’s note and an email from the Dean of Students for my professors to believe me.

3. My friends can’t take me anywhere

Before going on any sort of outing with my friends I am reminded to make sure I don’t get injured. And often times my friends and I will plan something and I end up having to cancel due to injury. I am the debby downer thanks to my body hating me.

4. Outfits are ruined on a regular basis

When you are injury prone, you are highly encouraged to wear protective/preventative gear. Let me just tell you for those of you who don’t know the struggle: a knee brace can ruin a cute outfit within seconds and don’t even get me started on the large elbow brace that makes me look like I’m a stormtrooper.

5. Physical therapy

Physical therapy is one of the most annoying and tedious things that often comes along with being injury prone. It would be more enjoyable if the tasks were not so simple. As an athlete who enjoys working out and doing complex lifts, being told to do simple partial squats with body weight is like telling a math major to add 3 single digit numbers together.  It’s almost an insult to injury type of situation.

Now being injury prone isn’t all bad, I have an excuse to take the elevator (besides just being lazy), and can often get out of cardio activities I don’t want to participate in thanks to most likely already being injured. There may be a lot of struggles that come with being injury prone but it leads to some great stories and some great friends.
