How to Succeed in 2018

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Guelph chapter.

Saying goodbye to 2017 has been bittersweet. While yes, the year had its ups and downs; I can safely say it was one of the best yet. This year has taught me so much about my own interests and how to achieve personal goals.

With that, here are the 5 things I’ve learned in the year 2017 that will hopefully help you achieve your goals in 2018!

Be confident in your own abilities

Whether it’s succeeding in school, travelling alone, taking on a new job or even a new hobby. Be confident in yourself. I can promise you, you have what it takes to succeed, it just needs to be found within you!

Don’t be scared to try new things

Again, if you have confidence in your own abilities, trying new things won’t be so scary. Most of the time trying to things leads to the most unexpected victories!

It’s ok to do things by yourself

As women we have a tendency to do everything in pairs. We’re shamelessly known as the ones who can never “pee alone”. But, doing things alone actually provides you with an opportunity to learn and develop in ways you never could’ve imagined. I think sometimes you need to experience things alone without a safety net to fall back on, it will help build confidence in your abilities!

Stay single

While being in university I have learned that there are many different variations of the word “single”. But when I say single, I mean no random hookups, no casual dating and no committed relationships. A lot of time these relationships add additional stress to your life. But the truth is, this can already be a fairly stressful time in your life so why add more? This goes hand in hand with being able to do things alone. It’s amazing what focusing on yourself can do for your life.

Write down your goals and put them somewhere you look everyday

I have found that once I have written down my goals and dreams for a year, I am way more likely to achieve them. There is something to be said at looking at your own list and feeling guilty when you don’t actually do everything you said you would. So this will give you some accountability throughout the year!
