On Thursday, October 21st, a young man plunged to his death by jumping off the 26th floor of 25 Park Place. Campus police arrived to the scene quickly to cover the body, but many students were startled. University President, Mark Becker, sent out an email informing that counseling is available to whoever is having trouble since the traumatic incident. However, no motive has been publicized. The body is currently being examined by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Faculty and staff asks if students could refrain from posting photos of the scene out of respect of the student’s family.
Although Suicide Prevention Awareness Month was last month, many concerned students are passing out yellow ribbons for suicide acknowledgement and awareness. There will be a suicide walk open to the public on November 5th in Downtown Atlanta. More information will be sent out to students who are interested soon.
