SGA Senator Candidate: Xinran “Bolbi” Liu

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GSU chapter.

Name: Xinran “Bolbi” Liu

Major: Actuarial Science

Classification: Sophomore

Hometown: China, Chengdu

Position Running For: Senator of Robinson College of Business

What makes you qualified for this position?

I am currently a senator of Student Government Association. I have great experiences with SGA such as helping edit resolutions, voting on bills, helping plan and prepare buttons for SGA Academics Committee events etc. I also have had many leadership experiences on campus especially being a member of the Spotlight Programs Board Tradition Committee and being a Student Ambassador of the GSU Admission Office. Those two experiences have helped me a lot in understanding and getting to know my school. I also made a lot connections through these experiences. I could say that I would have a better and broader view of campus issues than the others based on my knowledge and connections. Based on my international student background, I would say that I have a different cultural view than others and it helps me to understand and reach out to the diverse students on campus who may go unnoticed. I am truly dedicated and love my school and I would love to participate in GSU Student Government Association to show my love. If I am elected, I will make sure to build up stronger and closer connections between students and the Student Government Association. I will hear the opinions from students and help apply those in SGA. I will make sure your opinions and concerns will be resolved and Georgia State University will be the best choice for all students.

Do you currently hold position with the Student Government Association?

I am a senator of College of Arts and Sciences in SGA. I’m also the Board of Director of SAA, and a member of Gamma Iota Sigma Business Fraternity as a Social Media Chair, Computer Science club as Event Coordinator, Big Brothers Big Sisters as a Social Media Chair, Spotlight Programs Board as Traditions Committee Golf Parade Lead, and the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society.

What would you say is your biggest accomplishment on campus?

I would say that my biggest accomplishment on campus was assisting and planning Georgia State University’s Homecoming Week 2015 and becoming the leader of the Golf Parade of Spotlights Traditions Committee. There were over 50 organizations attending such as Greek organizations, GSU Admission Offices, GSU Athletes and even our President Becker and the First Lady participated in this event. Due to my international background, I never had any homecoming experiences and GSU not only gave me the opportunity to learn about homecoming and our campus but also the opportuntiy to be of leadership in such a big tradition.

What are your stances? Explain your platform.

I am committed to campus safety, diversity, and transparency. Based on the incidents that have occurred recently on Georgia State University’s campus including the robberies in the library, Aderhold, and the direct shooting at Piedmont North housing, the students, faculty and parents are concerned. I believe that students should have a safe studying and living environment. My plans to change this predicament would be hosting campus safety workshops to educate students about how to use safety resources like our escorts, teaching them self-defense, and also I suggest the campus to have more surveillance to catch suspects and also discourage criminal activity on campus.Lastly, I suggest running later shuttles and golf carts more often and to broader areas since our campus is so vastly spread across the city. Based on diversity, as an international student I think our reputation is not where it could potentially be. I wish we could offer more opportunities for international students and make them participate more actively in our campus activities as well. As far as transparency, a lot of students on campus don’t really know anything about the Student Government Association and how we have been of service to the student body. If I am elected to be a senator of RCB for this year, I will make more connections between students and our Student Government Association to really get opinions from the student body but not just during the compaign period.

What would you like the voters to know about you?

My name is Xinran Liu but I always go by Bolbi. If you’ve ever seen a little Asian girl who always dresses professionally with a little bit of style, that’s me. I am always active on campus, I attend many events and activities on campus. I’m a very friendly and accepting person. I have met so many diverse friends on campus and still have good relationships with them all. Besides being a senator of a college, I am also a great friend to all GSU students. If any one has any concerns or questions, I am the person you should always feel free to come and talk to. I am not only always listening, but I will try my best to bring your questions and concerns to the table to get a resolution. So please vote for Xinran Liu (Bolbi) for senator of Robinson College of Business.
