Meet the Homecoming Candidates: Donnell Ray

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GSU chapter.

Name: Donnell Ray

Graduation Date: May 2019

Area of Study: Sports Management

Homecoming Court Candidacy: Mr. Blue and White

What or who encouraged you to run for homecoming court?

I have had a lot of mentors encourage me to run, but really my brothers from Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., as well as my Peerless Perfexion brothers really pushed me to go for this.

Why this particular title, what makes it special?

This title is very special because this does not have to be the final mark I leave at Georgia State. Because this title is for sophomores/juniors, I can come back next year and still do a lot more.

On this potential platform (alongside the others you may hold) what do you want to address or bring more attention to?

I want to bring more attention to plaza and school spirit. I know that we are a commuter school but students should still want to participate in the events that Georgia State offers, especially when dealing with athletics.

What is something that you want the student body at GSU to know about you?

I want the student body to know that I am a very approachable person. I love talking to new people and I make an attempt to meet someone new every day.

What impact do you want to leave at Georgia State University?

I want people to know that college is what you make it. Everyone has the same opportunity to be great but only certain ones answer that call. I want to be a role model for my younger peers to want to follow in my footsteps and do what I did, but I want them to do it better than me.

*speed round*

What is your favorite food? Probably mac and cheese or any type of pizza (no pineapples though)

Best movie you have seen in the last year? Wonder Woman

Who is your best friend? Kayla Johnson. She’s a Delta here at Georgia State. And my hometown best friend is Jiah Brown. We’ve been friends for like 5 years now.

Greatest memory at GSU? Meeting my roommates and another friend freshman year. We’re all still friends now and still hang like freshman year.

One item you could have with you if you were stuck on an island?  Cell phone
