It’s no secret that in the past 10 years Atlanta has become the Rap/Hip Hop Capital of the U.S. and more recently the New Hollywood. Both will be combined together to help recreate the 1972 Blaxploitation crime drama, Super Fly.

Director X, a Canadian music video director, has signed on to direct the film with Joe Sliver and Rapper Future to serve as producers.

The movie follows an African American cocaine dealer named Priest, who is looking to score one more major deal and retire from the drug business.

The movie will feature hit stars such as Grown-ish star Trevor Jackson and Straight Outta Compton’s Jason Mitchell. Future has also signed on to create the soundtrack for this redo film.

“Our goal is to make it modern – to make a movie where the style, the art direction, the camera movements are all part of what makes the movie Super Fly,” says Director X in an interview with Deadline.com.

He continues to say, “I want to honor it in a way that shows a new generation how Black culture continues to be a catalyst for new trends in every area, from fashion to music.”

The film is set to be released June 15th and it looks like it’s going to be an action-packed blockbuster.
