Is Disney really for kids?

Sunday, September 12, 2010

Last night my friends and I sat in a circle, similar to the one in which Eric, Donna, Kelso, Hyde, Fez and Jackie sit on That 70's Show and talked all about how many Disney movies are not really for kids. Each movie is supposedly filled with negative, sexual, racist and adult like remarks and scenes. One of my friends mentioned that in The Lion King scene when little Simba plops down into the dirt, the smoke flies up and spells out the word "sex". I pointed out that in each movie, the girl or princess is only 12 or 13 years old and is getting married to 18- or 19-year-old men. In one scene in The Lion King when Sscar is singing with the hyenas, the hyenas do the Nazi salute as he passes by. I did some further research and found that my friends and I aren't the only ones to notice. Someone in the UK posted that they heard the phrase "Good teenagers, take off your clothes" in Aladdin. In the Pocahontas, a lot of the smoke figures also spell out the word "sex". In The Little Mermaid, Ariel and her family lived in a phallic-shaped palace. On The Ink and Paint Show starring Donald and Daffy Duck, Donald allegedly says "God D***med Stupid N****R" .  This really makes me want to sit down and watch all of these old movies that our parents thought were so innocent. Word of advice, think twice before you pop in another Disney movie.
