Meet ROTC Cadet, Haley Greer!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Gonzaga chapter.

Meet Haley Greer!

Haley Greer is the ultimate powerhouse when it comes to our university’s ROTC program.  She has proven to be an amazing leader through this program and has been contracted to serve in the Army after graduating.  Haley is also a CLC leader and in the ELI leadership program here at Gonzaga.  With such a welcoming personality and a contagious laugh that fills the room, Haley is a girl that everyone should get to know!

Age/Year: 19, Sophomore

Hometown: Castle Rock, CO

Major: International Relations, Minor: Philosophy

Favorite Quote: “I would rather die of passion, than of boredom” – Vincent Van Goh

Favorite TV Show: Either The Office, Game of Thrones, or Lost

Dream Job: President of the United States (or at least Secretary of Defense)

Favorite Insta filter: I don’t really use those, but I love VSCO and HB1 is my favorite!

Perfect Pizza: Hawaiian. Straight up. Canadian bacon and pineapple. Pizza Pipeline’s Hawaiian pizza is heaven.

My favorite thing about Gonzaga is the community.  From the students to my professors and the rest of the faculty, it seems like everyone wants me to be happy and successful. I feel very supported here, like a place I call home.

What makes ROTC so amazing?

First of all, I LOVE my instructors.  From going on runs with me to being a counselor for me when it comes to my academics and life in general, they are like my second family.  Through ROTC, they have taught me tactical Army information that I believe has helped me immensely. They aren’t just our instructors; they are there for me through changes in my life and I am so thankful for them.

Secondly, I love my fellow cadets.  They are also family to me. They are always there, offering me rides, inviting me to get food, helping me with homework, and the upperclassmen in ROTC are always giving advice for the upcoming years. The people in ROTC are some of my dearest friends.

I love the fact that I am able to serve. I love America. Being able to have the privilege to serve and being at Gonzaga, a place where we are given opportunities to go to the places that need our help, is an amazing feeling.  ROTC has made me more disciplined and has given me a sense of direction.

If you see Haley around, make sure to say hi!  We love our Zag cadets!
