The Arts of Spokane (Yes, They Exist!): On and Off Campus Fall Arts Events

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Gonzaga chapter.

When you think of Spokane, you may not immediately think of a vibrant arts scene – but don’t be fooled! Contrary to popular perception, Spokane has both hole-in-the-wall and highly publicized arts events this fall, both on and off campus! Check out some of these upcoming artsy events (some of which are free and/or offer student discounts!) with your friends or family this fall.

1) Zine Fest: http://spokanezinefest.com/

Saturday, October 14th, FREE, at the Bartlett (super cool concert venue!)

For all of you literary lovers out there, the Spokane Zine Fest is almost here! The Zine Fest brings together local artists and writers, who will bring an assortment of zines (naturally), small press books, comics, drawings, prints, cards, and other small handmade paper goods. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL ARTISTS! :-)

2) Individual World Poetry Slam: https://spokanepoetryslam.org/iwps-2017/

Individual World Poetry Slam is coming to Spokane from October 11-14. Competitive performance poets are coming from all over the world to our very own Spokane, and student discounts are offered for Zags! You can also get a super discounted ticket ($20) if you volunteer to be a judge – pretty cool, right?

3) TEDX Spokane, Saturday, October 21st from 9am-4pm @ Bing Crosby Theater: https://www.tedxspokane.com/#homepagesection

TEDX is coming to Spokane at the historic Bing Crosby Theater! This year’s theme is Predictors & Prognosticators: What is the Future of the Future. Check your Morning Mail (specifically from September 25th…) for a student discount promo code!!!

4) INB Performing Arts Center: MOWGLI The Jungle Book Ballet: http://www.inbpac.com/event.php?eventID=416

I LOVED Jungle Book when I was younger, and the ballet version is supposedly incredible! Dress up and head downtown on Saturday, October 14th at 7:30pm for this theatrical version of a childhood classic!

5.) Don’t forget: Our very own GONZAGA THEATRE and DANCE DEPARTMENTS and JUNDT ART MUSEUM!! I think it’s easy to forget how easily we can access the arts on our very own GU campus. A production of “tick, tick…BOOM!”, a rock musical (how fun is that?!) is coming up in early November. Get your tickets now! https://www.gonzaga.edu/academics/colleges-and-schools/college-of-arts-and-sciences/majors-programs/Theatre-and-Dance/OurSeason/Default.asp

And of course, there is always the Jundt Art Museum: check out the current exhibition over the weekend or during a much-needed study break!
