An American Abroad: How Do I Plan to Study Abroad?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Gettysburg chapter.

So, my last article convinced you to study abroad?  Awesome.  Chances are, you’re a bit intimidated by the idea of getting started with the process.

First and foremost, the CGE website is a great resource.  They’ve conveniently broken it down by steps:  start with Planning for Global Study.

From here, figure out what program interests you.  If you choose an affiliated program, the CGE staff will be more familiar with the staff, application process, and overall experience.  It will also be easier to transfer credits back to Gettysburg from an affiliated institution.

Don’t know where to start?  CGE has a nifty Program Finder that can match you to your ideal program based on the basics, like your major(s) and where you might like to study.

Some important questions to consider:

  • When is the best time for me to study abroad?

  • Will I be able to fulfil necessary requirements while studying abroad?

  • What sort of living situation (dorms, home stays, etc.) is preferable to me?

Now:  you should have a basic idea of what you’re looking for in a study abroad program.  Next, get yourself an appointment with CGE by filling out this form on their website.
