The 5 Best Things About Living in a Tourist Town

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Gettysburg chapter.

Living in a tourist town has definitely been an experience over the course of my four years here. I am no longer fazed by reenactors, muskets, or old fashion gowns. But with the unique culture comes some perks. Here are the 5 perks to living in a tourist town.

1. No Shortage of Restaurants

In town there are many restaurants to choose from and you can walk to almost all of them! There is Italian, Asian, pubs and bars, Irish, and Mexican food. So no matter what you are craving, there is something in town for you!

2. The Battlefields

The battlefields are good for many reasons. They provide trails for walking and running, places to hike, and you also can get your fill of history in.

3. Gift Shops

While there isn’t a mall near by, the smaller shops in town are perfect for getting unique artesian gifts for your family or friends for the holidays or birthdays!

4. Ice Cream

Along with a variety of food there are also different options for dessert. But the overwhelming favorite among the students has to be the homemade ice cream shop Mr. G’s. The ice cream is fresh, rich, and delicious!

5. Gettypeds

There are many activities for tourists to do, and therefore the students. Gettypeds are tiny cars that look like bumper cars that you can rent and drive around! There are also ghost tours and battlefield tours if you are more into the historical aspects of town.

So while some might think going to school in a tourist town is weird, there is never a shortage of food, cute shops, and activities!

I am currently a senior at Gettysburg College!  I am an English major with a Wrting concentration and Women Gender Studies minor.
