One of the best parts about going to school in a place like D.C. is the opportunities you have to attend events, openings, or protests that other areas of the country don’t have access to. This past Thursday, I was able to attend one of these D.C. exclusive events, an opening party at the W hotel for the MIDORI LINEA jewelry line by Sakura. The collection, which has been featured in New York Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week, Nylon Magazine, and Elle UK, is comprised of approximately 100 items including necklaces, earrings, bracelets and Sakura’s signature handchains. All of the pieces are breath-taking, and can definitely transform a more casual outfit into something special, a goal which Sakura keeps in mind when designing.
An aspect of the line that I found most interesting was the versatility of all of the pieces; Sakura demonstrated how one layered necklace could be worn in different ways, for example, left tucked under a shirt or fully exposed, depending on the look that you’re going for. Additionally, while the line feels cohesive, the variety amongst the individual pieces allows for anyone to find an item that speaks to him or her. For instance, I have a more minimalist style, so I enjoyed her more basic, purely metal necklaces; however, someone looking to make more of a statement could find what he or she was looking for in the pieces that included gemstones.

At the event, in addition to browsing the collection, I also had the chance to speak with Sakura and her staff, all of whom were incredibly friendly and helpful. Sakura discussed how she is in her third year of designing and looking to hold more events in the D.C. area, a portion of the proceeds from which she is going to donate to relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
As someone who has recently been on the hunt for new, unique jewelry, I’m so excited that I have discovered this brand. If you’re looking to give a meaningful gift during the upcoming holiday season or just shopping for yourself, I would highly recommend checking out the MIDORI LINEA by Sakura website and social media which I’ve included below!
