Hoya Beats: Workout Songs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

As the days tick down until Spring Break, it is an unspoken goal to return home without the infamous Freshman 15. Whether you have been working out like crazy these past couple of weeks or are just starting to get into the swing of things in order to procrastinate classwork, here are some of my favorite workout songs that could help motivate you too!

In random order…

  1. Thrift Shop by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis: This fun, upbeat song is great for a steady running or jogging workout.  Since it is so catchy, you might even find yourself singing along to it too…in your head, hopefully.

  2. Blow Me (One Last Kiss) by P!nk: This song picks up the energy during the chorus. It is a great song to use for interval training or even just a fast run on the treadmill or elliptical.

  3. Spectrum (Say My Name) by Florence and the Machine: I never really knew about this song until recently yet it has quickly become one of my favorite workout songs. It’ll keep ya going as you move to a smooth, steady rhythm.

  4. Chillin by Wale: The song says, “DC chillen” so it has to be a must on the playlist! Wale not only echoes his DC roots, but also gives us an excuse to say “Na Na Na Na…Hey Hey Hey…Goodbye” to them calories.

  5. Take Over Control by Afrojack: This might be a bit of an oldie but its still a classic pump up song, especially for those of us who like a bit of that electro feel.

  6. Just a Little Bit by Kids of 88: If you have never watched Teen Wolf, chances are you won’t know what this song is. Check it out. It’s awesome.

  7. Mr. SaxoBeat by Alexandra Stan: Nuff said.

  8. Fever by Adam Lambert: Give it a chance, seriously. Similar to Blow Me (One Last Kiss) it picks up at the chorus and really helps you pick up the pace.

  9. Cruel Summer from The Blue Crush soundtrack: First of all, if you have never seen the movie Blue Crush, you have to seriously get on that. ASAP. The soundtrack to the movie is amazing and this song stuck out to me immediately. Run to it…you’ll see what I mean.

  10. The Longest Road by Morgan Page (Deadmau5 Remix): Discovered this one while listening to Ellie Goulding Pandora. It is super catchy and not a lot of people have heard it. Check it out.

I could go on and on but for now those are ten to try out! If you are still looking for a few extra, check out: This is How a Heart Breaks (Rob Thomas), Too Close (Alex Clare), I Can Only Imagine (David Guetta), and Bounce (Calvin Harris feat. Kelis)…oh and As Long As You Love Me by the Biebs.

Happy workout!
