HC: So soccer is your favorite sport. Tell me how you became interested in it.
Will: I started playing when I was three and I never really stopped. In high school I stopped playing other sports to focus on soccer. I’ve played club at Mason for a few years and I play intramural for my fraternity.
HC: Are you hoping to incorporate it in your future?
Will: I’d ideally like to spend some time in England getting my masters degree. I’d love to be able to work at Manchester United in some capacity for a year or so just to be able to say I did. They’re my favorite club and it would be awesome to be able to say I worked there while getting my degree. I’m a government major so once I have to seek full time employment I won’t have a chance to work for a sport team so I’d like to do it while I can.
HC: Do you have a favorite memory of soccer?
Will: When I was studying abroad in England last year I was lucky enough to see the Manchester Derby (Manchester United vs. Manchester City), which is probably the biggest match in the country. United won on the last kick of the match, making it the perfect way to end my time in England.
HC: You’re also a very active member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Have you held any leadership positions?
Will: I’ve held a few different positions over the past three years—Athletic Chair and Pledge Educator being the main two. I’m currently on our judicial board as well.
HC: Tell me more about your favorite position that you’ve held.
Will: I really enjoyed being Pledge Educator. I’m on my way out of the chapter so it was really awesome to be able to bring 12 new guys in and prepare them for life in the chapter. It’s been rewarding seeing the guys grow so much.
HC: What has been your favorite part about joining such a great organization?
Will: I’d say always having guys there for you. It’s such a great network and makes college so much more enjoyable. Through SAE I’ve met the guys that I’m going to be best friends with for the rest of my life. I can’t imagine college without it.
