As most of you know George Mason is known as a “commuter school”, meaning a majority of students commute from off campus to school everyday. This whole commuter aspect causes LOTS of additional chaos in an average college kids life. Here are a few gifs that will help you guys better understand the daily struggles of a commuter in Northern Virginia.

For starters….WAKING UP. The struggle of having to wake up extra early to give enough time for traffic and parking is probably the hardest part about being a commuter. This can sometimes mean waking up 2 hours before your actual class time, giving you less time to sleep and more time to stress about getting to school on time. Once that alarm goes off you know its over.

Once you finally get yourself up two hours before your actually class you now have to sit in traffic for the next hour and a half. Of course this all depends where you are commuting from but any commute in northern Virginia can easily feel like more than an hour.

And then of course there is the occasional unexpected delay. Whether your car breaks down, or there’s an accident blocking the only road to school, it just makes everything 10 times more complicated.

So you finally get to school…now time for PARKING. One of the biggest complaints Mason receives from the students and faculty is the struggle of parking. Not only are students paying more than they need to be for parking, but there is NEVER parking when you’re running late for class. So you just kind of make your own spot and hope that parking services doesn’t ticket you.

Oh but don’t forget about that one person trying to steal YOUR parking spot that you internally claimed dibs on from the other side of the lot. Its basically like a mini parking lot war.

So you woke up, sat through traffic, and fought for the tiny parking spot…the struggle still isn’t over. You still have to run across campus to your class and slyly walk in pretending like you didn’t have the most stressful two hours.

Once all of that is over… you have to start over for the commute home, and the rest of the week.

Commuting is a struggle, and Northern Virginia’s traffic doesn’t make it any easier on us Mason kids. So hang in their collegiate’s, summer is just around the corner and the nightmare of commuting to school will soon be over.
