Why did you join Her Campus?
RD: I joined Her Campus because I am passionate about the female voice and it’s ability to empower others. I have always loved writing, and I wanted to my interests and experiences with other GMU students.
How has Her Campus made you an empowered college woman?
RD: Her Campus is my first journalistic experience, and having my words published on a national website has given me great confidence. I feel a sense of purpose to be involved on campus and spread the word about important things going on through my articles. I’m looking forward to experimenting with my writing style and having fun with it!
What are your career aspirations?
RD: As a current Government major with a concentration in Public Policy, I hope to use my policy background to make a difference in the world. I’m not completely sure what that will mean for me, but I do know I’m passionate about women and children’s issues. A few things I am considering are social work, education and non-profit policy. Also, I will always have the goal of being Beyoncé’s best friend.
What else are you involved in on campus?
RD: I’m involved in the Roosevelt @ Mason, which is a chapter of the nation’s largest student-led think tank. We work on campus, local, and national policy, as well as issue advocacy. Next year, I will be our chapter’s healthcare policy expert. Also, I am a member of the Student Health Advisory Board, working to improve student health and well-being on campus.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
RD: I love all things coffee and spend much of my free time thinking about and drinking coffee. I have been practicing yoga for four years now, and try to take a class whenever I can. I, without regret, spend a lot of time watching any and all ShondaLand (Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, etc.).
Anything else that you want people to know about you?
RD: I hail from the great state of New Jersey, and I’m proud of it. I love spending my summers at the Jersey Shore (and no, it’s nothing like the show). I also studied abroad last semester in Madrid, Spain, and I still dream about the Spanish Sangria and all things European.
