Campus Celebrity: Natasha Williams

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.
Although this is only Natasha’s second semester here at George Mason, she has wasted no time establishing herself in and out of the classroom. She is quite the social butterfly. It does not take long for her fun-loving, goofy personality to reveal itself. Natasha still, however, knows the difference between work and play, with very serious goals in mind.

Year: Junior

Major: Criminology (minor Spanish)
Hometown: Laurel, MD
What first sparked your interest in criminology?: I would say a lot of time watching shows like Law&Order: SVU, Criminal Minds, I found them very interesting. CSI was another one, especially. Honestly,  a lot of it had to do with my mom. She is very strong mentally and physically; growing up with a mom like that, that really advocated that you stand up for yourself and stand up for really all injustice in general, gave me a strong sense of justice. That’s definitely why I’m so passionate about it.

If your friends had to describe you in one word or phrase what do you think they would say?: If I had to guess I would say passionate.

What’s your favorite thing about George Mason?: IndAroma! But really the way that Mason gives constant information about completing your degree, internships, job interviews, what to do to move forward and so on. The head of the department makes sure everyone knows what’s coming up and available. The teachers and staff are actually prepping you and telling you about tons of opportunities. They aren’t just concerned with you getting a degree and leaving.

Where do you see yourself in five years?: In law school. I also think having an internship at a law firm would be nice.

Do you have any general advice for younger students?: Know your advisor, and make sure to ask questions! Ask for scholarships and fill them out well in advance. Get active in social opportunities. There is definitely something for everybody. That being said, get to know people who aren’t like you to learn to interact with people with different view points. Join CRU! Cru is an awesome organization. Take advantage of all the career opportunities as well that will help you go towards your ultimate goal.

Name a song you have to dance to every time it comes on: Everyone knows I can’t name just one! Cupid Shuffle, All About That Bass, The Saints, Wobble, Uno Uno Seis, the list can definitely go on.

Anything specific you want to accomplish or try before you graduate?: I 100% want to study abroad in Spain next summer. An internship at law firm in the near future is also really important to confirm that I want to go on to law school.
