6 Reasons Why the 2015 Virginia Girls’ Summit Rocked

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

“Own who you are & rock the world” read the cover of the program for the second annual Virginia Girls’ Summit, held on October 10, 2015 at George Mason University. The mission of the Virginia Girls’ Summit is to inspire girls to be passionate about who they are, what they want and how they’re going to get it. *

Her Campus George Mason had a blast at Virginia Girls’ Summit this weekend! Here are 6 reasons why the 2015 Virginia Girls’ Summit rocked:

1. The day started with live entertainment, raffles, student created art, and programs and businesses that support girls.

Keds was one of many businesses supporting girls at the Virginia Girls’ Summit.

2. Autria Godfrey opened up the summit.

Did we mention that she’s won an Emmy and is an Anchor of Good Morning Washington and ABC7 News at Noon?

3. The Fearlessly Following Your Passion session featured some pretty amazing women who advocated for women in tech, having the power to ask for help, self-love, entrepreneurship, and coming back stronger after rejection.

From left to right: Pooja Chandrasheker, Founder of ProjectCSGirls; Rachel Hankers, Singer, American Idol Participant; Ashley Graham, Model, Designer & Body Activist; and Willa Doss, Co-Founder of Willa Skincare.

4. There were amazing breakout sessions covering healthy living, friendship, life in high school, life in college, and social media.

Her Campus George Mason had a blast on the panel for the Unwritten: On Road to College breakout session!

5. Youtube Sensation, Designer & Digital Influencer Bethany Mota made a special appearance.

Bethany emphasized in her speech, “Don’t put your self worth in someone else’s hands.” We couldn’t agree with her more!

6. At the end of the summit, attendees were able to tour the remarkable George Mason University (not that we’re biased)!

Co-founder Patsy Mangas and the rest of the 2015 Advisory Board really rocked our world with the 2015 Virginia Girls’ Summit! We’re looking forward to next year’s summit on November 12, 2016!

I am a sophomore at George Mason, studying Communications with a concentration in journalism. My main campus involvements include being a sister of Alpha Omicron Pi International sorority, Mason Ambassadors, and contributing to both Mason Cable News and The Fourth Estate as a reporter. I hold a current internship in the Admissions Office, working specifically for the Washington Scholars Program. After interning for the Washington Journalism and Media Conference this past summer, I realized that journalism was absolutely what I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing. I'm excited for my time at George Mason and to continue adventuring the DC area! You can catch me at Starbucks.
