Time’s ticking as we slowly bring the semester to the end. With a little over three weeks left of the semester, we’re busy wrapping up presentations and projects while pre-finals stress begins oozing in. If you missed any of this week’s current events, don’t stress! We’ve got you covered!

US

After massive campaigning and a landslide victory, CNN reports President Obama has received “two thumbs up” on his performance in office. However, a new poll also showed decreasing levels of optimism for the President’s next four years in office compared to his first presidency in which he boasted a 76% optimism rate. The current 56% of optimism for the next four years may seem like a good number but it’s a steep 20% drop considering when Pres. Obama was first elected.

World

After his pivotal role in the recent Israeli-Palestinian outbreak, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy gained popularity in the international arena – a feat which gave a new prospective to US-Egypt relations. However, immediately after being applauded on his successful negotiation between the two warring nations, Morsy implemented a new decree last week granting him new powers which divided the nation. This new shift in power caused protestors to once again gather in Tahrir Square and revolt. On Monday, Morsy met with the nation’s top judges to reestablish set criteria for his new powers however the final decision on this new decree and whether or not it will go into action has yet to be determined.
