Why Everyone Should Have an Internship Before They Graduate

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCU chapter.

You’ve heard it all before, “make sure you get an internship!” but this is from student to student.Internships are extremely important to do before graduating! In college, a lot of students don’t know exactly what they want to do when they get out, that’s why applying for internships will hopefully give them a better perspective as to what direction they want to go in. If you already know what you want to do, an internship would still be great experience. You may think you want to do something specific, but after you intern and have real experience on the job, you may realize it’s not what you thought it would be.

Another huge benefit to interning is that you can potentially get a job right after graduating! If you intern in college and they like you a lot, they can decide to keep you when you graduate! This has happened to a few people I know. Many companies take in interns when they’re looking to hire people, so it’s a great thing to do!

Interning also looks good on a resume. When you put on a resume that you had an internship, companies will look at that and you will automatically have a higher advantage than the people who didn’t have internships. A company would rather hire someone with experience than someone without.
