What it’s Really Like to Live in AZ

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCU chapter.

When people think of Arizona, they usually think that it is always sunny and always hot. While that is true for part of Arizona, it is not true for the entirety of Arizona.

Most people do not think that there is cold weather at all in Arizona. The Arizona stereotype is that it is always sunny and hot, which is not the case. There are cities in Arizona that can get really cold, and that actually get a lot of snow. When most people hear that it snows in parts of Arizona, they are completely shocked. This confusion may be because Phoenix is a city in Arizona where it is always warm no matter the season.

In Arizona you can get the best of both worlds. In Phoenix, you have the hot weather, the desert and cacti, and if you travel about two hours north of Phoenix, to Flagstaff, you have the cool weather trees and the mountains. To live in perfect weather all year round, live in Phoenix during the school year, and spend your summers up in Flagstaff. Living in Arizona, you have the opportunity to choose which type of setting that you want to live in, A big city or a small town. If you are more of a city person, then Phoenix is a great option. If you rather live in a smaller town, there are multiple smaller towns in Arizona to choose from. Flagstaff is not an extremely small town but has more of a small town feel to it, nothing like a city. There is also places like Prescott and Sedona, that are quite a bit smaller than Phoenix. If you are looking for a really small town there is Bisbee or Jerome.

Arizona is a great state to live in if you are a person that enjoys the outdoors. There are so many great places to hike and camp, etc. There are so many beautiful sights to see, such as the Sedona red rocks, and the Grand Canyon. There are so many different plants, and landscapes, ranging from prickly pear cacti, to pine trees.

Phoenix is a relatively big city. There are a lot of shopping and restaurant options to choose from. However, this can be a little difficult being a college student, as usually money is very limited for college students, but there are still restaurants that are not crazy expensive and some even take student discounts. You just have to do a little digging. A lot of the fast food restaurants take student discounts. For a list of restaurants and retail stores that take student discounts, visit https://studentdiscountlist.org/arizona-az-student-discount-list-restaur…

Arizona also does not have daylight savings time, so it is the same time all year long. You do not have to worry about changing your clocks ever, which is a bonus.

Arizona is a great state to live in because it has so much to offer, and there is something for everyone to enjoy. No matter what your likes are, you will be able to find what is right for you.
