What Is the Disney College Program?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCSU chapter.

Can you quote your favorite Disney movie backwards and forwards? Do you buy those cute little countdown apps for your phone when your Disney vacation just can’t arrive soon enough? Do you keep a lot of random Disney trivia in your back pocket to pull out at dinner parties?

If you answered yes to these questions, you might be a Disney fanatic. And you might also be interested in learning more about a little internship…maybe you’ve heard of it? It’s called the Disney College Program!

The “DCP”, as we mousketeers like to call it, is a semester-long internship that offers college students the chance to work at the Disneyland or Walt Disney World resorts in located in California and Florida, respectively. The program has three main aspects: living, learning and earning. Participants live in Disney-sponsored apartment housing, take business and hospitality courses and seminars offered by the Walt Disney Company, and earn anywhere from $10-$12 an hour.

The program is a great resume-builder and is a great internship experience for Georgia College students in need of one for their major. Cast members (that’s Disney lingo for employees) also get lots of great benefits, like free admission to the theme parks and discounts on food and merchandise. This also means that the DCP is very competitive; out of 30,000 applicants each semester, usually only 4,000 will be selected. Are you interested in being one of the lucky few?

For more information, you can contact GC’s internship coordinator, Megan Bowen, at megan.bowen@gcsu.edu. Applications are out now for the Fall 2017 semester! Apply at cp.disneycareers.com. And as they say in the Walt Disney Company, have a magical day!
