Top 7 Valentine’s Day Horror Movies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCSU chapter.

We are getting close to that time of the year where loved ones go out and buy each other expensive gifts for one day. Are they really embracing the true meaning of Valentine’s Day, I think not. St. Valentine was a temple priest who was beheaded by Emperor Claudius II for helping Christian couples wed. While yes, he was performing a ceremony focused around the concept of love, but he was also murdered, which is often over looked. February 14 was a day commemorated in his honor to be celebrated around his dedication to love, but let’s instead celebrate Valentine’s Day with a little gore. Here are seven slasher films to snuggle up to and watch with your loved one on V-Day.

1.      Hospital Massacre (X-Ray)

A man impersonates a doctor to seek vengeance on a woman, who nineteen years ago didn’t accept his Valentine. This movie if filled with cheesy eighties gimmicks and gore, so it shouldn’t be too scary.

2.      My Bloody Valentine

A coal mine accident left five dead and one man, Harry Warden in a coma. Once out of his coma he seeks vengeance and kills 23 people on Valentine’s Day. Ten years later Tom, a survivor of the massacre, returns to town just when more murders start to happen; he is then accused of committing them all. I would recommend watching the 2009 version, unless you like cheesy eighties movies.

3.      Lovers Lane

A man who committed a series of murders thirteen years ago begins to hunt down his victims children. This is a teen romance horror, they’re not going to listen to any warnings.

4.      Valentine

Remember the kid everybody ignored on Valentine’s Day, no, they remember you. Five young women are looking for a relationship, one to die for, and they just might get it. Hearts don’t just break, they get even. Love hurts.

5.      The Loved Ones

When Brent turns down his classmate Lola’s invitation to the prom, she concocts a wildly violent plan for revenge. The moral of this story is, be careful about who you do go with and don’t go with to the prom.

If these five weren’t exactly the kind of Valentines romance you were looking for, these next two are sure to be up your ally. They are still gory, but have a softer side to them than did those from above.

6.      Shaun of the Dead

A man decides to turn his life around by winning back his ex-girlfriend, fixing his relationship with his mother, and fighting off the living dead. This one is really good for laughs, if you and your partner like comedy.

7.      Warm Bodies

After a highly unusual zombie saves a still-living girl from an attack, the two form a relationship that sets in motion events that might transform the entire lifeless world. Would you be able to reverse the effects of a zombie, you were falling in love with.

Enjoy your Valentine’s Day, with whomever you wish. Watch one of these movies, because I guarantee it will bring you both closer.
