Semi-Formal Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCSU chapter.

With Fall finally in full bloom many University organizations are looking forward to Semi-Formal season. For many, this means Homecoming style dresses and bow-ties, for others it’s flannel shirts and boots, and for a few it’s a themed party that girls can spend days prepping and designing for.

The fine ladies of Sigma Alpha Omega, which is the Christian women’s sorority, threw a costume ball themed semi-formal, which gave all the girls a great opportunity to dress up and show their individual styles for any time period or character. Don’t these simple Roaring 20s outfits look adorable and easy for Halloween?

Alpha Delta Pi sorority recently had their semi-formal entitled My-Tie where the girls wear ties with the dresses to match their date. I always enjoy watching my roommate struggle to tie her tie and find a way to make it look cute with a dress. While the idea seems a little strange, the outcome is always precious and creates great memories for all the sisters and their dates.

While a lot of sororities are dressing up, some dress down. Kappa Delta sorority’s semi-formal is a flannel-themed formal in a field with bonfires. It’s not the stereotypical theme, but it does give the boys on our campus a chance to loosen their ties for the night and wear the cowboy boots they have no other use for.

Every organization has a different idea of “semi-formal” on this campus and I think that’s what helps this small school remain unique and eclectic. We all have our own style, our own ideas, and our own way of doing things and it often reflects the personality of the chapter as a whole.

What kind of semi-formals do the organizations on your campus throw?
