What connects all of your extracurricular activities?Nothing really seemed connected at first. I joined Gamma Sig freshman year to find friends and learn more about the community. I became involved in GC Miracle because of a completely unexpected health situation in my family. It was through Gamma Sig that I became interested in service and leadership, but Miracle really find my passion.
What really connected you to the cause, if you don’t mind me asking?In September 2012, my nephew Elwin was born with a very unexpected birth defect called EA/TEF, which basically means he had an abnormal esophagus that didn’t connect to his stomach but instead to his windpipe. So yeah completely crazy, my sister had no idea.He spent the first three months of his life at the NICU at Children’s Hospital at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. So in those 3 months, GC Miracle members had visited Gamma Sig’s chapter meetings and once I learned about what they did, I really knew that I wanted to join Also, being in the hospital nearly every day for 3 months, I saw how much the doctors and nurses cared about my nephew and my family and I just wanted to give back to that hospital as much as I possibly good.
What do you do as Director of GC Miracle?I oversee a board of about 20 members who work together fundraising throughout the year, totaling our efforts at the end of the year with Dance Marathon (Shameless Promo: Everyone should register and dance 12 hours For The Kids!)
How would you describe your personal style?I never dress in something I don’t feel comfortable in. I wouldn’t consider myself “girly” but I love bright colors and solid patterns. I get clothes that I know I can wear with different things.
What’s your favorite Netflix binge?I’ve watched Gilmore Girls probably at least 3 times maybe 4 and most recently House of Cards and That 70s Show and Scrubs before its untimely removal . Netflix binging is my way of letting my brain relax for 20 minutes to 48 depending on the show and/or how much homework I have/want to do.
What’s your favorite or most interesting volunteer experience?Well, one of the most interesting has been volunteering at the Bonnaroo Music Festival for the past two years. I’ve volunteer on the visual décor and design kroo. It’s 8 days of camping/living in my Suburban in the glorious Tennessee summer, but I’ve made some really great friends and it’s really just an experience that I could not fully describe but heavily encourage everyone to do!
