7 Crafts to Gift This Holiday

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCSU chapter.

So, the holidays are coming faster than I anticipated, and, surprise surprise, I’m nowhere close to ready. For my gifts this year, I will be relying on my Pinterest board for ideas. Though we all know most of those turn out to be duds. To save you the headache I compiled seven crafting projects that I’ve successfully completed. Feel free to duplicate these ideas and give them as gifts. Your loved ones will be so impressed with your skills.

  • You can make your own cards! This one is super easy. I just looked up a calligraphy template online and painted the edges with metallic watercolors.
  • Personalized mugs are also a great gift. For this one, just run by your local Michaels and pick up a plain white mug and a sharpie. When you’re finished with your design, bake the mug for 15 minutes to ensure that the words don’t come off when you wash it.
  • I recently made a jewelry hanger, which was about as simple as it gets. I bought a plank of wood and stained it black. I also purchased corks and simply hot glued them to the board! And now I hang necklaces from it.
  • You could also make some dream catchers. This one was made with a metal ring, but you can also use embroidery rings, which are wooden. For the middle, you just loop the string around. It’s easier if you use thicker string. I also hung feathers and lace from the bottom of the ring. It was super simple to make and ended up looking kind of okay. Which is exactly what I want out of my craft projects.
  • So this next one is harder than the others. It does require a drill and a trip to your local Home Depot. I purchased a wooden plank, which I stained black. Then I got PVC pipe connectors, which are the metal rings you can see in the picture. I also bought a box of mason jars. So, essentially, you just loop the PVC pipe connectors around the top of the mason jar. Then, you drill it to the wood. Honestly, the hardest part of this project was tracking down a drill, but after that, it was smooth sailing. I use mine in my bathroom.

  • Next, is yet another project that requires the use of a drill. This is a key holder that I made. Once again, I bought a piece of wood at my local crafting store. I painted it purple and then drilled three holes into it. I then screwed cabinet knobs into the wood.

  • I saved a rather easy one for last. This is just a simple wall hanging I made recently. All I did was lacquer the wood to preserve it, then I tied feathers to it. I used a cream yarn for the string so, over time, it will develop fly away pieces. Most people like to use driftwood for the color, but I just found this near my house. I removed the bark and it looks fine.

Well, I hope that these ideas help you in the holiday craze! Even if you don’t end up using them as gifts, you can still make them for yourself, as I have done. I hope you all have a lovely winter break!
