Why You Need to Wake Up Early One Saturday Morning

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

I totally understand sleeping in on Saturdays. There is nothing nicer than relaxing in bed and not moving until you are hungry or have to check your phone. For one weekend, every student should visit the local hotspots of this great town. One of the treasures of Tallahassee is the Saturday Market! This place is super cool. Local artists sell beautiful necklaces, garnet and gold birdhouses, tie-dye t-shirts, and other handcrafted pieces. Honey, jams, fruits, and veggies are also sold here. Open from 9 am-2 pm, the wide selection of vendors draws in people of all interests.

These candle mason jars are great for decorating your apartment this fall season. They come in a variety of colors and sizes. Large candles are only $8.00 and the small candles are $5.00. Make sure to stop by the Saturday Market to check these cute jars out! The owners also gift-wrap them if you want to give the mason jar candles as gifts to friends. These mason jar candles are adorable and great for the fall, and are from Hudson Creek Farms (hudsoncreekfarms.com). The candles are also made of soy, which means they are made from soy wax that burns cleanly and slowly. These candles are eco-friendly and once the entire candle burns, you are left with an adorable mason jar to put flowers in!

The Saturday Market also has places to sit and relax while you shop. These chairs are set up in a circle pattern for you to enjoy your Saturday with friends and family. Sometimes there is even live entertainment with groups who play live music. Every Saturday morning at 9 am, the sound of bagpipes is heard. This noise signifies the opening of the Marketplace and tells both vendors and customers that the market is open for business.

The fruit and vegetable stands at the Saturday Market are the perfect place to get fresh, organic food. Peaches, apples, grapes, zucchini, and eggplant are some classic examples. These fruits and veggies are locally grown which is great for customers who want to know where their food is coming from. Supporting local businesses is such an important thing to do and is made easy when you visit the Saturday Market.

October is a great time to visit the market because the weather has cooled down. Customers can easily stroll from vendor to vendor without breaking a sweat. The beauty of Tallahassee can be seen when you walk around Park Avenue. The sprawling trees, the draping moss, and the historic buildings are what make this part of Tallahassee so special and unique. Step outside of the usual Florida State campus and come to the heart and soul of what makes this city fantastic. When thinking about plans for the weekend, try to check the market out next Saturday. Take your friends, roommates, parents, or even just walk on your own! Parking is easy to find along Park Avenue. Visit the market’s official website http://www.downtownmarket.com today for more information about vendors, artists, produce, and other details.
