Senior Lessons Learned: Build Up Your Memory Bank
For every one newspaper that we read or news channel that we watch, there are about ten stories of the horrible economy. It is nearly impossible to escape the fact that so many people are having to do without simply because they can’t financially afford things. This is an especially alarming fact for those getting ready to brave the world outside of college. When we cannot depend on our four (or maybe more) years of college to sustain us financially, we have to turn to building a bank account while we’re in school that will always be in the surplus, one that doesn’t take a forty-hour work schedule to fill and one that promises not to deplete no matter what world event comes along. My senior lesson learned is about building up our memory bank account.
This is an integral component to our college experience. Although the main objective of college is to educationally nourish yourself in order to go into a specific field of study, another part that’s looked-over is truly finding yourself as a person. These years are the very beginning of our adult lives and in them, we have to discover what it is that we like and dislike; we have to trademark our essence in order to live happy and full lives. How do we do something like this? All of this talk sounds so philosophical and complicated but, as Dr. Senior, I’m really just prescribing what all us girls really ‘wanna’ do in the first place: HAVE FUN!
We have to build on something that we know can’t be touched and nothing is more untouchable than a memory! So go out with your friends. Take a road trip. Go to that new restaurant that looks kind of funky. Shop ‘til you drop! Do anything that you like with the people that mean the most; this is the only way that you can make any sense of that “finding yourself” mumbo jumbo. Do things that make memories because your memories will last forever. In building up your memory bank account, you solidify yourself as a person and guarantee that whatever life may throw your way, you can handle it because you will live a joy that is unbreakable. So bad economy or good, be rich. Build your memory bank account.
