Light the Night has come and gone, Dance Marathon mania has come to an end, and now we are in the philanthropy home stretch towards Relay for Life. With less than 30 days until the event, the Relay for Life events team has been stepping it up with more unique, interesting events that are sounding better than ever. On a semi-unrelated note, it is also formal season. So, it’s time to come out of your Netflix and pizza filled winter hibernation to meet a nice young man who will take you to Bourbon Street. Potbelly’s is too loud, Standard is too packed and The Strip is, well, The Strip. Where is one to turn?

I have an excellent opportunity for those of us who like to be equally philanthropic and selfish that is just in time for The Bachelor fanaticism. Relay for Life is holding a Fraternity Date Auction this evening, Monday the 21st, in the Wesley building right by The Sweet Shop. It will feature young men selling their bodies for a good cause, and let’s be honest, that’s something worth getting excited about. Tickets can be bought for $10 via Tilt, which includes dinner and a show. More of procrastinator? Like living life on the edge? They understand your struggles. You can purchase your ticket at the door for the same price, but it is much preferred to buy tickets in advance because the event is being catered and they don’t want anyone going hungry.

In order to actually partake in this amusing bidding war, make sure you bring some money with you. The auctioning will start at five dollars for each contestant and will hopefully only go higher from there. However, bidding isn’t required. If the idea of going on a bidding war for a date puts your stomach in knots, you are still welcome to come, enjoy the show and eat some great food. Come with full hearts and full wallets because this philanthropy event is a guaranteed good time.

One of the coordinators of the event, Hunter Fitch, has been working around the clock to make this event a success. He told me, “We’ve had some major obstacles in creating this event, but we’re beyond excited that this is happening. There is a ton of interest and we are having more and more confirmed eligible bachelors everyday. We can’t wait for Monday!”

Everyone in the audience will sit and watch while the emcee cracks joke after joke, calling out the men old-school style, listing out his hobbies, favorite things, least favorite things, ideal date and more. Once you win your date, you will go and sit at the dinner table, waiting for everyone else to claim his or her prize. At the end of the event, you will share a meal with your new beau and all of your friends. Who knows, you could end up galavanting around NOLA in the coming weeks.
