Along with beautiful weather and beautiful football, this November has also brought some beautiful new music. Check out eight of my favorite new artists, albums, and singles that have already come out this month!

1. The New Basement Tapes and Lost on the River

T Bone Burnett produced the new album Lost on the River, which was released on November 10th. This album is incredible because the tracks are based on uncovered handwritten lyrics from Bob Dylan that were part of his album The Basement Tapes. Aptly named, The New Basement Tapes is actually a moniker for the artists who are part of the album, including Marcus Mumford, Johnny Depp, and Elvis Costello.

2. BenZel

BenZel is a very new musical duo reigning from Osaka, Japan. Their EP, Men, was released on November 10th, and each song features at least one other up-and-coming artist. Their Facebook profile claims that “after many failed attempts to create a hypoallergenic ankle sock, they decided to put their efforts toward other creative ventures.” Focusing on 90s R&B with respect for the late American producer and rapper, J. Dilla, BenZel’s music is reminiscent of Flume.

3. Iggy Azalea’s “Iggy SZN”

If you don’t know who Iggy Azalea is, you must be living under a rock. Her new single “Iggy SZN” was released on November 10th, and it epitomizes her incomparable musical style. It will be released on her new album Reclassified, which will be a re-release of her debut album, plus five new songs. It is expected to drop on November 24th. This new album will also feature a song with Ellie Goulding.

4. BØRNS

Garrett Borns, who goes by his stage name BØRNS, is a California-based artist whose music has been described as a “dreamy blend of folk, glam, and electro rock.” On November 10th, he released his EP Candy.

5. She & Him’s cover of “Stars Fell on Alabama”

The talented actress-singer-songwriter Zooey Deschanel and guitarist-singer-songwriter M. Ward have done it again. They have been around as She & Him since way back in 2008, and their cover of the classic “Stars Fell on Alabama” is possibly my favorite collaboration of theirs. She & Him put a charming country folk spin on this song, which has been covered by classic artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and Frank Sinatra. They released it on November 10th.

6. Shawn Mendes

Shawn Mendes is a 16-year-old singer who gained his popularity with snippets of covers on Vine. One of the opening artists for Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off Tour in North America, his music is reminiscent of 5 Seconds of Summer.  His single, “Something Big”, was released on November 10th, and features both rap and pop influences.

7. The Decemberists’s “Make You Better”

If you’re an indie folk fan, you’ve almost definitely heard of The Decemberists. And even if you’re not, you should definitely check out their new single, “Make You Better”, that came out on November 3rd as a prelude to their new album, which comes out in January. This romantic tune is sure to bring happiness to your heart. Unfortunately, their upcoming tour dates are only in Europe, but new dates are scheduled to be released soon.

8. Ella Eyre

Ella Eyre is a 20-year-old R&B/pop singer-songwriter from the UK who has already recorded with a wide variety of big-name musical talents, such as Bastille and Wiz Khalifa. Her powerful lyrics and powerful voice can be heard on her self-titled EP, which was released on November 4th.

Sarah Christine Davis is a junior at FSU who frequently has to use her middle name so as not to be confused with the millions of other girls who have the most basic first and last name combination ever. She is double majoring in Editing, Writing, & Media and Media & Communications Studies and, believe it or not, one day wants to work in the media. In her spare time, she comes up with ways to have a friendship as perfect as Amy Poehler and Tina Fey's, daydreams about creating a cat park in her home town (dog parks are so discriminatory), and updates her LinkedIn and Online CV profiles.
