Her Campus (HC): What made you join  “Coping Through College”?

Leanne Duke (LD): Well, Emilio, the current president, Jose, the former vice president, and myself founded it. I became friends with them because we all had the same interests and I also love dogs.

HC: What does your organization do?

LD: We promote helping students, especially freshman, ease home sickness and improve their lives, whether they are in need of friends, stressed out, lonely or nervous. It is basically to help students cope with college in a better way, and to make FSU a friendlier, more welcoming atmosphere.

HC: Are there any events coming up?

LD: We just had the “Puppy Spooktacular” on Landis Green last Thursday, where we socialized with dogs, gave prizes to the cutest puppies in costumes and we had lots of food!  On November 7th we are partnering with the Veterans Association on the Union Green, so it would be a great event to come out and see puppies and the veterans. Also, on December 6th we have the countdown for finals; we will have puppies to de-stress students the week before finals.

HC: What made you decide to become vice president?

LD: Well, last year I was secretary and I’ve always been an active member in the organization, so I took the position as vice president since I already had experience. Ever since then, it hasn’t been a hassle; it comes naturally to me.

HC: Are you involved in any other organizations?

LD: I was involved in a Living-Learning Community, Women in Math Science, and Dream On.

HC: Do you like the people you are surrounded with in “Coping Through College”?

LD: Yes, I love them! We are all obsessed with dogs and it is just a friendly environment. We also get a lot of networking through our events, which is a good experience.
